First introduced in 1958 by Corning Glassworks (the scene company that manufacturers are beloved Pyrex) these products were uniquely made out of glass-ceramic or Pyro Ceram which means them resistant to thermal shock. Marketed for their ability to be taken out of a refrigerator or a freezer and be used directly on a stovetop, oven or microwave and then being served at the table as a decorative serve ware - CorningWare could seemingly do it all. Did we also mention that it can be put directly in the dishwasher when ready for cleaning!
The first one of kind range-to-table kind of CorningWare products featured the blue cornflower pattern decoration, which was designed by artist Joseph Baum. This flower pattern eventually became the trademark of Corning’s products and we swear to you that the spice boxes that sported this pattern looked so adorable. However, the original Pyro Ceram-based CorningWare was discontinued in 2000. The range was eventually relaunched as a line of stoneware based bakeware in 2001. The stovetop line of CorningWare was reintroduced by World Kitchen in 2008, the manufacturing done by a French-based subsidiary of Corning called KeraGlass/EuroKera.
